Expert tank inspections ensure regulatory compliance and minimise workflow disruption
We have extensive experience in inspecting, as well as designing and installing Category 6 tanks. We can design a testing schedule that fits in to your broader maintenance program, providing you with the most effective solution.
Typically, Category 6 tanks holding over 150,000 litres, built on site to API 650, are located at bulk fuel storage facilities, mine sites and military bases. Smaller volume vertical tanks are generally built at major oil company fuel depots in regional centres to service the local area. These tanks typically hold 50,000 to 100,000 litres and are manifolded to provide a larger, flexible storage volume.
AS 1940 describes these tanks in Section 1.4.7
Tanks as classified in AS 1692 are as follows:
- Category 6—Vertical tanks of any capacity, of a size and type that is usually erected on site.
These tanks must be inspected at specific intervals, depending on the part of the tank or fittings. Table 9.1 in AS1940 sets out the inspection intervals which vary from monthly for a visual inspection for tank, valves and vents to ten yearly for non-destructive testing to prove continued structural integrity of the tank shell, floor plates and roof plates.
Reference to API 653 and API 2000 is also required.
